Tristan Wirfs #32
June 19, 2022
Simply put, this is the home run of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.
Right tackle Tristan Wirfs has started his career, and at the risk of premature hyperbole, Joe might one day whisper Wirfs’ name the way the names of Lee Roy Selmon, Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks are mentioned. .
And to Joe’s knowledge, Selmon, Sapp or Brooks have never hauled trees.
It’s almost scary how talented the Iowa giant is. Run block, pass block, whatever, Wirfs simply chokes and buries defenders. We saw how important he was for the offensive line last season in the playoffs.
With Wirfs missing the Rams game with a messed up ankle, it was like a man running into a team embroiled in a standoff. Wirfs fell and like dominoes the offensive line crumbled for perhaps the first time since Tom Brady arrived on the scene.
It was the first time Wirfs had missed a start. Chance?
Wirfs played so well in his first two years, that CBS Sports’ prickly Pete Prisco at No. 32 on its list of the 100 best players for 2022 ranked Wirfs
He might be the best right tackle in the league, which is impressive considering he’s entering his third season. He is exceptional in pass protection and should improve as he matures.
You know what’s sort of the icing on the cake for Joe? Wirfs might be the coolest guy on the Bucs roster. He has every reason to be great and he is quite the opposite.
So how important are Wirfs to Brady? When Wirfs went public that he didn’t have Brady’s cell phone number, in about two hours, Brady made sure Wirfs broke it to the social media world.
