Newcastle United transfer news LIVE: Chelsea ‘open’ to selling Christian Pulisic and Joao Pedro latest

patient approach

Newcastle United are heading into the final weeks of the transfer window catching up. After a great start to the summer with three defensive additions, it’s been a frustrating time trying to get stronger at the other end of the field.

There’s a huge clamor among supporters for the best names to be brought in this month, regardless of price or value. A form of transfer fatigue seems to be setting in as the window draws to a close.

Joao Pedro has become Newcastle’s latest target in recent days, with an offer already rejected by Watford. The Hornets are desperate to keep the young Brazilian and believe the Magpies’ opening offer of £20m plus add-ons does not represent his value.

It was a similar case in the pursuit of James Maddison, with Leicester finding Newcastle’s first offer ‘offensive’. The attacking midfielder would likely be a Magpies player today if the North East side had just picked up the money earlier this month.

Whole swaths of the fanbase want Newcastle to just ‘pay the money and get the deals done’, but that’s not the new owner’s mantra. Those at the top have always insisted that this is a long-term project on Tyneside and that more money spent this summer means less available in future windows.
