Maine’s 2022 survivor/castaway-themed day is April 27 – Reuters

The University of Maine Maine Day 2022 will take place on April 27 with events and contests related to the Survivor/Castaway theme.

Maine Day was inaugurated in 1935, when then-President Arthur Hauck set the day aside for the “spring cleaning” of campus, with the entire UMaine community on campus – students, faculty, staff and alumni -. Historically, Maine Day is set for the Wednesday of the last week of classes in the spring semester.

Coinciding with Maine Day is maine donation day, an annual 24-hour fundraising event coordinated for seven years by the University of Maine Foundation. The UMaine Employee Giving Campaign, which is highlighted throughout April, is also part of the Giving Day event. This year, the newly launched Higher Education Relief Fund, which provides financial support to students and faculty affected by environmental, political or global crises while pursuing or hoping to pursue studies at UMaine, is also presented.

The Maine Day 2022 schedule for April 27:

8:15 a.m. – Parade

Campus offices and organizations will parade around campus on a historic route that will drop off attendees in time for service projects. Groups are encouraged to dress up and design a float – whether on a trailer, the back of a truck, or just on foot – to fit the Survivor/Castaway theme. There will be trophies for the best organization and the best office. Register here.

9:00 a.m. – Service projects

Service projects will begin immediately after the parade. A list of service projects with openings is available in line. If you have any questions, email the Bodwell Center at [email protected] If you already have a project planned or need volunteers to help you do something, submit a project request with the Bodwell Center in line.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – BBQ and fair

All campus restaurants are closed for the traditional BBQ in the Steam Plant parking lot. Student organizations will organize fundraisers and activities. Student organizations can register for the fair in line.

1 to 4 p.m. – Lawn games

Head to the mall for lawn games, music and snacks.

6 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Black Bear Party

To celebrate a day of service, the University of Maine Student Government will host the Black Bear Bash with food trucks, inflatables, a battle of the bands and more.
