St Kilda are challenging Paddy Ryder’s two-game ban for his Hawk Will Day bump on the AFL Tribunal tonight. Live below from 5 p.m. AEST!

The incident in Sunday’s clash at the MCG that left Day concussed was classified as reckless driving with high impact and high contact.

St Kilda, represented by Jack Rush QC, tried to argue the impact was ‘medium’ rather than ‘high’, not contesting reckless driving or high contact.

After Day kicked the ball into midfield, the 197cm ruck Ryder collided with him in front and appeared to choose to smash.

Day was then taken out of the game at half-time and will miss the Hawks’ Easter Monday clash against Geelong at the MCG.

A two-week ban would see Ryder miss St Kilda’s upcoming clashes against the Gold Coast Suns and GWS Giants.

It comes as the AFL has cracked down on head shots and concussions in recent years, placing the blame on those who choose to bump into each other.

The Saints attempted to reference Tim English’s hit on Nick Blakey in the third round, which did not result in a suspension and was deemed “not unreasonable under the circumstances”.

Collingwood legend Nathan Buckley believes the game “got too soft” if Ryder was suspended, claiming Day was responsible for the injury due to his poor technique.

Hawks coach Sam Mitchell told reporters after the game that Day was “a little beat up, he’s a little sore and sorry for himself,” while Saints coach Brett Ratten said that Ryder’s bump “felt fair enough to him”, but would let the MRO process unfold. .
