Live Covid-19 Updates: The Union Department of Health on Wednesday reduces the time between the second dose and the third precautionary dose of the Covid-19 vaccine from nine months to six months. On Wednesday, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to states that a decision had been taken to administer the third precautionary dose to the adult population after six months or 26 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose. Currently, the precautionary dose is available free of charge at government vaccination centers for priority groups – frontline workers, healthcare workers and people over the age of 60. For 18-59 year olds, the precautionary dose is only available at private vaccination centres.

In a separate development, amid a rise in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, there were no Covid-related deaths in Mumbai in the past 22 days. For the second day, the number of new Covid cases in the city was below 700. A day after reporting 659 cases, the city reported 695 cases on Wednesday. Additionally, Delhi reported 600 Covid-19 cases and one death from the virus infection while the test positivity rate fell to 3.27%, according to data shared by the health department here on Wednesday. With the new cases and deaths, Delhi’s Covid count rose to 19,38,648 and the death toll jumped to 26,276, the department said in a bulletin.

In global news, mainland China reported 409 new coronavirus cases for July 6, including 124 symptomatic and 285 asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said Thursday. That compared to 427 new cases a day earlier – 141 symptomatic and 286 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately. There were no new deaths, like the day before, keeping the country’s death toll at 5,226.
