When Chelsea can start N’Golo Kante contract talks after Thomas Tuchel transfer message
The upcoming summer transfer window is set to be huge for Chelsea. The club need to ensure the rest of the takeover process goes smoothly so that money can be injected into the squad to try and close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City.
As well as the new additions, however, Chelsea need to ensure they keep some of their star players, who have recently been linked with leaving due to the uncertainty at the club in recent weeks. Some players’ contract situations mean they will leave Stamford Bridge in the next summer transfer window.
Thomas Tuchel confirmed earlier this season that Antonio Rudiger is set to leave at the end of the season. The German international is expected to join Real Madrid when his contract with Chelsea comes to an end next month.
Likewise, Andreas Christensen is set to leave when his contract expires at the end of next month. The Dane has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona – and if he leaves as well as Rudiger, it would indeed leave Chelsea severely short of defensive options.
With these two appearing to be on their way out of the gate of Stamford Bridge, it is now up to the club to ensure there are no more repeats that would see other key players leave in the summer transfer window. As things stand, Chelsea have eight players in their senior squad who see their contracts at the club expire in the summer of 2023. Marcus Bettinelli, Thiago Silva, Marcos Alonso, Kenedy, Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta and Jorginho all have just over 12 months left on their offers.
Kante is the most striking name there. The France international, who admittedly hasn’t had the best seasons on a personal note, remains one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League.
